Structured hybrid role:    

At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home.  We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Introduction:

We are seeking a seasoned data and software engineering professional to lead our engineering efforts across multiple areas within our Corporate data ecosystem, including ETL, Operational & MI Reporting, Real-time data integrations, Cloud (AWS), and Data Science & Analytics. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully leading engineering teams and delivering high-quality, scalable data solutions.

What will you be doing?

•    Lead a team of data and software engineers to design, develop, and maintain data-related applications and systems.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architecture, data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, to identify and prioritize engineering initiatives.
•    Drive the development of ETL pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and integration.
•    Oversee the implementation of Operational & MI Reporting solutions that enable data-driven decision-making.
•    Lead the design and development of Real-time data integration solutions for streaming data applications.
•    Guide the development of data solutions on AWS cloud platforms, leveraging relevant services and best practices.
•    Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation within the engineering team to continuously improve data solutions.
•    Oversee the integration of data solutions within the organization’s broader technology landscape.
•    Implement and maintain data security and privacy measures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
•    Mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and expertise in data and software engineering.
•    Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in data and software engineering, particularly within the data domain.
•    Establish and maintain effective collaboration with external partners and vendors to deliver data solutions.
•    Oversee the design and implementation of data storage and data management solutions.
•    Lead the integration of data solutions with other technologies, such as machine learning and AI platforms.
•    Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team through retrospectives and knowledge-sharing sessions.
•    Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for data and software engineering processes and procedures.
•    Drive the adoption of DevOps practices within the engineering team to ensure efficient and effective development and deployment of data solutions.
•    Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of data solutions to ensure optimal performance and availability.
•    Lead the design and implementation of solutions for data quality management and data governance.
•    Foster a culture of innovation within the engineering team to explore new technologies and methodologies to enhance data solutions

Product Management and compliance to processes 

•    Participate in Roadmap planning, Backlog creation and Prioritization with Product Owners and Stakeholders.
•    Resource management across Product PODs.
•    Explore metrics across the product, collaborate with Tech Lead and Team Lead to derive team performance.
•    Provide product management information to the Product owner.
•    Mentoring junior team members
•    Raise and manage risks and issues in a timely manner in adherence to relevant standards
•    Be able to provide multiple solutions and have the ability to choose the best course of action weighing up various factors that should be taken into consideration

•    Strong understanding of data engineering, data curation, and data consumption processes.
•    Expertise in designing and implementing ETL pipelines using Ab Initio for data ingestion, transformation, and integration.
•    Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java for developing data solutions.
•    In-depth knowledge of data-related technologies, including data storage, data management, and data integration solutions.
•    Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, for developing and deploying data solutions.
•    Strong understanding of data security and privacy measures, including compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
•    Experience with data quality management and data governance frameworks.
•    Proficiency in using data analysis and data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.
•    Expertise in designing and implementing real-time data integration solutions for streaming data applications.
•    Experience with machine learning and AI platforms, and their integration with data solutions.
•    Strong understanding of data modeling concepts and techniques.
•    Proficiency in using databases, including relational and NoSQL databases.
•    Experience with data APIs and data integrations with external systems and services.
•    Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
•    Experience with DevOps practices and tools for efficient development and deployment of data solutions.
•    Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
•    Proven ability to mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
•    Experience with agile methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban, for managing data engineering projects.
•    Strong understanding of data architecture principles and patterns, including distributed systems and big data architectures.

•    An understanding of contemporary distributed software development, including:
o    Microservice / API-oriented architectures

•    Strong knowledge or experience leading applications based on:
o    OOP concept, System Design (Microservices)
o    RESTful APIs implementation (Java Spring framework)
o    Cloud based Ecosystem (AWS) / APaaS
o    API security aspects (Gateways)
o    Advanced CI/CD principles awareness
o    Databases – Both Traditional Relational DBMS & NoSQL (MongoDB)
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write and present a range of written materials (presentations, briefings, reports) and to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels in various global locations
•    Experience working in an Agile environment
